Our little one turned one and a half year old few months ago and we thought of celebrating this birthday with a cake. Just three of us. It was quite a journey from the time he turned one. From trying to walk steadily to walking fast to almost running, trying to copy his dad, learning to talk and express and being very particular and adamant about his needs. All showing signs that our little baby is not a baby anymore he is a toddler. I felt it was a big milestone and thought of marking it with a simple smash cake set up.
At one year of age, babies don’t quite understand what is going on around them. I noticed that on his first birthday he hardly touched the smash cake and did not care about the decor. But at 1.5 years things are different. He is very fond of stars and moon. He keeps looking for them in the sky even in the morning when the sun is shining bright. So I made stars and moon (out of gift wrapping paper) as decor. He was very excited to see them. He even pointed at the pom pom calling it a flower. When we finally brought the cake in front of him he got super excited and curious. He immediately started eating it. It was nice to see how he was aware of his surroundings and curious about things now. It just felt right that we celebrated this day in our own little way. It also gave me a chance to use my creativity. I am looking forward to celebrating his 2nd birthday and see how things change by then.
