First birthday decor ideas and DIYs

It is an exciting period in a parents life, especially moms, when they have to plan for their kids birthday. This was my son’s first birthday and thus was extra special. This post is all about these fun stuff that I made for my son’s first birthday and how it all turned out.

THE THEME

I chose a blue (with polka dots) theme. Once that was done it was easy to imagine what kind of decor we wanted. I decided to keep it simple as I knew it would be difficult to manage work, baby, home and this preparation all at the same time in the short span of two weeks.

I had bought some silk papers from Ikea earlier, so I used that to make the Pom poms. The number ‘1’ was also a DIY that I enjoyed making.  It is made of coffee filters that were stained using acrylic blue color. It needs some time for the color to soak and dry so I made it a few days in advance.

Yet another exciting DIY that I looked forward to make was the birthday crown. Please visit here to know more about how I made it.

I tried a simpler way to make the popular first birthday poster which I wanted also to match the theme. I used a picture frame that I already had and a designer card paper and some color sketch pens to make it.Rest everything from the banner to the balloons were bought from a party shop.

THE CAKE AND THE CUPCAKE

I love baking too. And thus baking/making the first birthday cake was yet another thing I was looking forward to. I made our favourite chocolate-orange cake covered with cream cheese and fondant with a little fondant boy sitting on top. One suggestion will be to bake a cake that you have made before, don’t try anything new. I will soon have a post on how to make the chocolate-orange cake in my recipe zone. So keep watching.

I wanted the cupcake to be another flavour and ended up with everyone’s  favourite vanilla flavour. I made the toppings with cream cheese plus food color. Follow this link to see how I made the cupcake toppers.

THE RETURN GIFT

I used a blue and white polka dot paper cover to put the return gift in and finally used a designer tape to close the cover.

I had a great time making all of these. And it was more exciting to see how it all came together on the final day. It was a memorable day for all of us. Check my other post if you are looking for how I planned and prepared for the birthday.
