DIY birthday crown for baby

Birthday crown

Ever since I started planning for my son’s first birthday, I knew what kind of crown I wanted. The crown needed to match the theme (blue) and fit well on my baby’s head. So here is a DIY for making a simple and elegant birthday crown for your cutie pie baby / toddler / kid for a blue theme party. Choose the color of the crown based on the color of your theme. It is easy to make and is adjustable so it fit the baby’s head comfortably. Well, I was quite happy with how it turned out. Hope you guys like it too😀.

You will need

What you need to make a birthday crown

  1.  Blue felt sheet (40 cm x40 cm size was used in this case)
  2. Silver glitter foam sheet
  3. Silver glitter ribbon
  4. Ruler
  5. Scissor
  6. Pencil / pen
  7. Glue
  8. A small coin
  9. Stapler
  10. Ear bud

Most of these items should be available at any hobby shop. I bought the sheets and the ribbon from pandurohobby  which is a hobby shop here in Norway.

Steps

First of all, we can either make a template to copy on the felt paper as shown above or simply start drawing on the felt. I chose to draw directly on the felt using a pencil, so that the lines are not so visible on the finished product.

1.Choose an edge of the felt sheet and draw a line parallel to this edge at 7 cm distance. Since it is a square sheet we can begin from any edge.

2.Draw another line parallel to this line at 4 cm distance.

3.Then mark the triangular parts with a width of 4.5 cm as shown above. In this case there are about 9 of them.

4.Now cut the base part of the crown as shown above.

Note: You can choose to vary the measurements according to the height and width of the birthday crown that you plan to make.

5. Now take the silver glitter foam sheet and using a small coin  draw 9 circles.

How to make to birthday crown

6. Cut these circles out.

7. Use glue to paste them onto the felt sheet that we cut out.

8. Draw and cut the number 1 out from the silver foam sheet and stick it on the felt base right in the middle as shown above.

9. Paste the silver ribbon along the lower edge of the crown. As shown above I have also extended it for extra support and to tighten the crown properly onto the baby’s head without causing any discomfort.

10. Also as shown above, I used another piece of the felt and stapled it to the main crown to get the desired width.

Note: If you plan to use the same crown again for another baby/kid with a different head measurement, all you need to do is to adjust the size of this piece alone, hence no need to make a new crown with another size.

Finally, the crown is ready to be worn by your prince/princess 🙂

This is my lovely model Teddy B. It looked even more amazing on my little prince. You can use this crown for an adult as well. All you need is to change the number and color based on the theme of the party, what say? I would love to hear from you, once you have tried it.
